How is dimensional weight calculated?
Multiply length × width × height, then divide by the carrier's DIM divisor. In metric, FedEx/UPS/DHL express use ÷5000 for cm→kg; air freight uses ÷6000. In imperial, US domestic couriers use ÷139 (in³/lb).
Which divisor do FedEx, UPS and DHL use?
FedEx and UPS international express: 5000 (cm/kg) — domestic US: 139 (in/lb). DHL Express: 5000. Most airline freight: 6000. Amazon FBA inbound small parcel: 139. Always confirm with your rate card; 4000 divisors appear on some negotiated deals.
What happens if my box is 30×30×30 cm weighing 2 kg?
Volumetric weight = 27,000÷5000 = 5.4 kg. The carrier bills 5.4 kg (rounded up to 6), not 2 kg. Light but bulky packages always pay by DIM.
Why did my courier bill change when I resealed the box?
Couriers scan every piece; a soft bag that bulges measures as a larger rigid box. Trim packaging to the contents — every 5 cm off each side of a large carton saves ~15% DIM.
